New Plant

So my great clearance shopping skills has extended beyond the grocery store and Kohls... and to the garden. Here are some pictures of my latest clearance plant (only $3). I have to do a little research on the plant... but the interesting foliage really caught my eye.

Birthdays Galore!

August 11th and 12th have to be two of the most popular birthdays that I know!!

Yesterday... Mike (my husband, not my brother) turned 31! and one of my co-workers, AJ, turned 20-something (27, I think... not 100% sure). Today is Larry's birthday (not going to tell his age) and Heidi and Brian are both turning 31!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYONE!!

Emmy "helps" make the bed...

One of my most favorite comfort things is to climb into a nicely made bed complete with freshly laundered sheets. I guess Emmy takes after her mommy!! It took me a very long time to get the bed made yesterday because of all her "helping"!

Mike's Project from last weekend...

Here are some pictures of the wall Mike built this weekend! It is the one at the bottom left of the house. I think he did a wonderful job! And it incorporates nicely with the rest of the walls that we have. We still need to fill it in with dirt, but are thinking about waiting until the fall... so that the plants have a better chance of surviving being transplanted. We were recently looking at some pictures of the house when we first moved in... it is crazy how much work we have done in just 4 1/2 years!

Jugular Vein Cannulation

Here is the new surgery that I am learning--Jugular Vein Cannulation. It is considered a microsurgery, and is one that most people consider very difficult to do. Well... without any formal training, or even watching the procedure done by someone else... I am 3 for 3 baby!!! I am doing a little happy dance. I am going to try it on a mouse in a little while. That is something the big bosses are interested in maybe starting up. Basically... the purpose of the entire procedure is to put a catheter down into the jugular vein (going towards the heart, tying off the other half of the vein and then we are able to administer meds/drugs through the catheter and it goes directly into the bloodstream. The rats will be trained to press a lever that causes certain drugs to be administered... the more they press, the more drugs they get (there are limitations, don't worry... we don't let them OD). well... back to work!

Things that make me go hmmmm....

A lot of things have made me stop and go "hmmm" lately. ... here are a few.

#1
Yesterday on the news it was announced that the city of Seattle is trying to do away with disposable grocery bags so they are now going to charge 20 cents a bag! craziness. I am all about trying to make this a more "green" planet and all. But, almost every grocery store I go to around here has a box or bin that you can put your plastic bags in for recycling. When I do a big shopping trip to the grocery store... sometimes have a cart full of food. I would need an extra cart just to carry around my "green" grocery bags. I would have to have a minimum of like 20! especially when I stock up on soda. Then, I got to thinking... what about trash bags. The kitchen trash bags and various other plastic bags that millions of people put their trash in don't get recycled. At least the grocery bags can be recycled. Maybe Seattle will take some of their 'bag' money to do a little research on ways to cut back/eliminate/recylce some of the other plastic items that are thrown out.

Why in the world are men so obstinate about going to the freakin' doctor!?!? Drives me up a wall.

Will cat poop help my garden grow?? With 5 cats and 5 kittens in our house right now... they are generating a lot of "waste." Pounds and pounds of waste daily. Easily over 50 pounds in one week (granted, the weight of the clumping cat litter adds to it). But seriously... there has got to be something I can do with all that poo!!

ok...that is all for now. I got to go slice and dice!
